I know that this might be a bit slow in posting a topic like this. Well, to my understanding, a certain, certain people has proposed that in order to control/stop traffic jam heading towards the city center, each and everyone of us will have to pay to enter the city center. Well, according to that certain certain people, the payment is to deter us from driving into the city center, take the public transport and finally to ease the traffic congestion.
While this might look like a great move in easing traffic congestion, I do have a few points that I wanna say out. Below are my points for you guys to rebut. Hahaha.
1. Singapore, England and a few more developing/developed countries implemented it already, so why not us?
Well, what I want to say is, are our public transport system up to that level yet? All I see is we have insufficient public transport, ALL public transport are always faced with delay, taxi drivers are choosy to the places that they will go. This is just to name a few. There are a lot more. So, are we up to the level of those certain countries to implement such a system? If we implement such a system, instead of going out of the house at 8.30 am, we need to be out of the house at 7.30am or earlier.
2. This move is to promote public transport.
Well, is our public transport system up to the level yet? My arguments are the same as above.
3. This move is to promote car-pooling.
Well, if we can car-pool, why don't we do it? The problem is, how do you expect staffs living miles apart to car-pool? If we don't use our own transport, how the heck do we reach the office on time? And what about those salesman? Do you expect them to car-pool to meet clients? They meet clients at different locations.
4. This will ease traffic congestion.
Like I said, the intention is good but it is just plain not feasible to be implemented in Malaysia. Over the years we have seen prices of products rises and nothing has been decreased. Fuel, sugar, food stuffs, toll and all those, it has increased drastically over the years. Heck, even when the price of crude oil has dropped so much, we do not get to see the price of petrol decreasing. All we see is the decrease in the road tax payment which is just like "kecik mayung" only. All these increase but we don't see any increase in our income. Walao eh, you wanna burden the people some more ah? What about people of certain profession who need to travel to and from the city center for a few times a day? This move is like rubbing salt to injury.
Okay, these are my views for this issue. I do see the plus point in this move as I have stated in bold but with the plus point, I have my arguments also. I just hope that this move never got implemented. I'm crossing my finger. Oh ya, another point, how sure are they that this move will actually ease traffic congestion? They might ease it on certain roads but cause traffic congestion on other roads. I rest my case once again.
