My long term commitment

I have been wanting to post this up for quite some time but there is actually one more uncertainty before I can safely say that it is finalized. I think I have been mentioning that I will soon embark on a long term commitment ever since February or March but I cannot reveal anything at that time because it is still pretty much at the "thinking" stage.

Now, after about 3-4 months, I got this to show as a result of that "thought":

Yup, that's pretty much sum up everything. I've started looking at apartments since after Chinese New Year with my gf and also my parents and sister. At around March- early April, we (my gf and me) have finally found the one which we like.

Due to problems on the seller side (yes, it is a second hand apartment), the signing of the S&P on the seller's part took about one month. There was also delay on signing the letter to authorize the agent to sell the apartment on the seller side and there was also delay on the signing on the S&P (Again, on the seller side). Finally, the S&P was stamped at the mid of last month.

I was just so unhappy about these delay. I was so anxious all through this period as I would like to settle everything as soon as possible. I am the kind of person who like to get things done fast. I've done all my homework, getting to know all about bank loans, researching all the housing loan packages in the market, contacting the banks, photostating all necessary documents and especially my payslip month after month, getting the service of S&P lawyer etc.. But all these are quite useless if the seller did not sign all these documents. Although they delayed me on both process (paying down payment and signing S&P), all was forgotten once everything was signed. I am just so relieved, glad and happy that it has all been signed.

As you can all see, the apartment is put under my gf and my name meaning that we would share the payments on the bank loan. The reason we do not want to buy a landed property now is because we do not think that we need such a big space for the time being. Especially when we will only be staying together after marriage and would not be needing the extra space for our children even after marriage as they will still be quite young. The plan to move house will only be considered after about 5-6 years from now. That is why we decided to get an apartment instead of a landed property.

The one remaining uncertainty which I have mentioned earlier which made me delay posting this up was on the bank loan. After much research, we have finally decided to get HSBC bank's flexi housing loan due to what we think as the best housing loan terms around.

The application has been signed on the 21st of last month, approval on the 29th and the loan application documents are signed on the 30th. Since it is a Zero Moving Cost package, my gf and me do not need to pay a single cent for all these.

Although the bank loan has already been approved, they are yet to disburse the money to the seller as the process will take around 2-3 months. I am just scared that something might go wrong in the process. I am praying hard that nothing will go wrong and I can get the key to the apartment by August. Then, I can truly feel relieved I can happily carry on with the renovations on the apartment.

I am also waiting for my S&P lawyer to call me to pay for the money for the Stamp Duty. Did you know that since last year, for all Stamp Duty, you can get a 50% discount for one property in your lifetime? The next time you buy a property, do ask your lawyer to prepare the document for you to take to the Commissioner of Oath to sign.

As for furnitures and electrical appliances, a few things has been confirmed. My mother is buying the couch set and the washing machine, my father is buying me the fridge while my brother is buying me the dining table set. All I can think of that I need to buy for now are the bedroom set, the TV, some display cabinets, some book shelves, some tables, a computer table, the TV rack, some utensils and some small electrical appliance. The apartment already has kitchen cabinets installed.

All these week, everytime I go out with my gf, we will be looking at stuffs for the apartment and especially bedroom set and LCD TV. Finally, last weekend, we have bought this:

A 32 inches Sharp AQUOS LCD tv. The original price was RM 2799 but we got a great bargain. Right now, it is only sitting behind my bed as it is too big for my room. Hahahaha. Although I do feel sad about moving out and not staying with my parents, my parents and me knows that I will eventually have to move out and as my sister is already 14, she will need a room of her own too. That's why I chose to buy the apartment which is located near my house. I just can't wait to get the keys to my apartment. I'm really really praying hard that nothing goes wrong and I can get the keys to the apartment by August and move in by September. Please wish me luck.

Price Increase? RM2.70?

I'm sure that by now, a lot of blogs have already been talking about our latest crazy petrol hike from RM1.92 per liter to RM 2.70 per liter. Now, for every liter of petrol I pump, 1/2 t0 3/4 of teh ais is taken away from me...

I did remember reading articles at the start of the year when we were assured that there will not be an increase in petrol price at least until September. Then, out of the blues was all these news about an imminent increase and finally yesterday, it was declared.

Last Tuesday, I have already known that yesterday will be the last day for the RM1.92 per liter for petrol. It was on all the online newspaper. Our PM said that the announcement will be made yesterday and the changes will take immediate effect while Mr. Sharir said that there will be increase yesterday while the new subsidy plan will be announced in August. I have already pump up full tank on Tuesday night and avoided the mad rush yesterday.

What has caused all these last minute rush was due to the fact that on Tuesday, Sharir saying that the new plan will be in August and then later on our PM saying that there will be increase yesterday and finally, Sharir rephrasing what he has said earlier by saying that the increase will be yesterday and the new subsidy plan will be in August. So, I decided to pump full tank on Tuesday anyway, irregardless of whether there is any increase. Well, my point is not here, my point here is just the same as everyone else, I wanna rant a bit.

The money saved will be used to improve the public transport
Did they not say it everytime they increased the petrol price? What improvement have we seen since they started increasing the price a few years back? We are not expecting instant results but it has been so many years yet there are nothing to show.

The money saved will be used to help out the poor
Don't the poor need to drive also? Even if they do not drive, wouldn't the increase also cause the increase on other items and also the public transport? It is just like taking a large chunk from us and then just giving us back a little bit out of it? So, the money you gave back just doesn't mean much.

We have to change our lifestyle
Well, how do you expect us to change our lifestyle when we are already living on a tight budget? And why did you not lead by example? Why did you all not change your lifestyle too? Private jet? Oversea study trip? The increase is not only on the petrol but it will affect other necessities. Everything increase but there is no increase on our income.

Our price is still one of the lowest in the region
First and foremost why is it that you convert it back to RM? People here earning RM 2000 will need to spend RM 2.70 for 1 liter while people in Singapore earning SG$2000 will only need to spend SG$2.20 per liter. They will be able to spend SG$0.50 more on other stuffs. It is just a stupid comparison. Another thing to mention is why are we comparing with countries which are net importers of petrol? It doesn't reflect anything.

Haiz, i just feel more and more disappointed while typing these all. There will be more bad news in August. Fell free to add in more. I'll just stop here before what I typed make me wanna sulk.....
